Our Approach

Environmental, Social, and Governance

We believe foundations, endowments, and families should have the choice to incorporate their missions, values, and morals within the construct of their investment portfolios. Our clients are increasingly focused on implementing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors by investing in mission-related projects and in both active and passive mediums. We have broad experience in helping clients establish and implement ESG and socially responsible investing (SRI) parameters to guide current and future decisions.

Today, clients have options for ESG investing that go beyond the traditional negative screening, which simply removes from the portfolio any company that doesn’t align with the client’s values. Canterbury divides ESG strategies into three categories: positive impact, best-in-class selection, and exclusionary screening. We believe that by offering a wider array of ESG solutions, clients will be better equipped to use the approach that fits their missions and values, and meets their investment objectives.
