2020 SuperReturn U.S. West
FEBRUARY 2020

Canterbury Consulting’s Director of Research, Stuart Blair, CAIA, led a roundtable session at the annual SuperReturn U.S. West conference on Wednesday, February 12, 2020.

Is the Grass Greener? Working with New, Emerging, or Overseas Managers

This session focused on sharing best practices, stories of success, and examples of failure. The roundtable discussed the merits and considerations of an emerging manager program. While an emerging manager program can be beneficial to portfolios, participants agreed that such programs need to be executed with a strategic objective in mind and cited sourcing, defining the objectives of the program, and dedicating the resources to the program as necessary components for success. In general, the expectation is that an emerging manager program should provide better returns, better access, and better alignment of interest compared to mature manager franchises.

This session was open only to finance institutions, endowments, foundations, insurance companies, pension funds, and sovereign wealth funds.
