When we begin a relationship with a client, they have already built their wealth, and we understand that we’re here to help them keep it. We lead clients through a discussion of discovery of what they want to do for themselves, for their family, for their community and for their legacy. Once we have established those goals, we discuss their tolerance for market fluctuations because we want to get the risk right. We talk at length about a client’s past investment experiences, their comfort with varying degrees of portfolio complexity and sophistication and how involved they want to be with each investment. We also spend a great deal of time discussing liquidity needs and expected tax liability.
After all of the groundwork has been laid, Canterbury will custom design a portfolio to best meet each client’s unique goals. We help every step of the way from preparation of new account forms and wire transfers to conferring with the appropriate legal and accounting advisors. We establish a routine quarterly review schedule for face-to-face meetings, though our consultants are available for meetings or conversations as frequently as needed. We monitor our clients’ managers and portfolios and will recommend a mid-course correction as needed to adjust for changes to a client’s financial circumstances, or to take advantage of an emerging opportunity.
