Performance Measurement

For performance monitoring purposes, Canterbury independently calculates investment performance from each client's custodial statements. We carefully check both pricing and shares owned to reconcile differences with investment managers. Investment returns are calculated monthly using daily weighting of cash flows then linked for quarterly and annual returns.

Once Canterbury has calculated performance for a client, we upload our data into the State Street performance system. Canterbury is a participant in the Independent Consultants Cooperative (ICC), a joint venture with State Street, which provides a comparative investment performance database for use by the 17 member firms of the ICC. The database is composed of the State Street custodial accounts, as well as all of the accounts of each member firm. The database now includes more than 17,000 individual client portfolios with combined assets of over $1.4 trillion, and it gives Canterbury the ability to accurately gauge the relative performance of investment managers by comparing their results to a subset of peer group managers. We prepare a customized performance report that is distributed to clients on a quarterly basis.
